LookUp

Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

The short version: LookUp has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It works out what's in the sky on your phone. To check for clouds, it sends your location to a weather service, and nothing else about you leaves your phone.

Your location

LookUp uses your location to predict when the space station and satellites pass over you, whether aurora might reach you, and how dark your sky is. Those predictions run on your phone.

To know whether clouds will hide an event, the app sends your latitude and longitude to Open-Meteo, a weather service, and gets back a cloud forecast. If you search for a place by name instead of using your phone's location, the name you type is sent to Open-Meteo's place search. Nothing else is sent with these requests, and they aren't linked to you.

Sky data the app downloads

LookUp regularly downloads public data: satellite orbits from CelesTrak, space weather from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center and launch schedules from The Space Devs. These downloads contain nothing about you. As with any internet request, these services can see your device's IP address.

What stays on your phone

Your settings, places, alerts, the log of what you've seen and anything you note are saved only in the app on your device. They're included in your phone's own backups if you have them turned on, which Apple or Google handle under their privacy policies. We have no access to them.

The camera view, adding a photo and adding an event to your calendar only ask for permission when you tap them, and what they use stays on your phone. Sharing a card goes wherever you choose to send it.

What we collect

Nothing. We don't run servers that receive your data, and the app contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking software. We don't sell or share data, because we never have any.

Purchases

LookUp+ is sold through the App Store and Google Play, which handle payment. We never see your name, account or payment details. The app only asks the store, on your device, whether your purchase is active.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes everything it saved from your device. Data in existing backups follows your backup settings.

Children

LookUp is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its date. If LookUp ever needs to send more than it does now, for example for live aurora alerts, we'll say so here and in the app before it does.
